Coprolalia is a form of Tourette's syndrome that accounts for seventeen percent of the behaviors displayed by sufferers. It involves an obsessive behavior in a person, to speak obscenities or other words that are considered unacceptable in civilized society. Before proper diagnosis of the disorder, coprolalia promoted accusations that individuals displaying such behavior were possessed by the devil. Sufferers were often ostracized from their communities or punished for behaviors they could not control nor understand. |
