Image SUPER-SARGASSO SEA
A huge body of water suspended above the earth called the Super-Sargasso Sea was a hypothesis devised by Charles Fort, a collector of stories about odd natural phenomena. In his book, The Book of the Damned, Fort proposed that a floating sea full of organisms existed in order to explain the anomalous showers of animals and substances that reportedly fell on occasion all over the world. Obviously, there is no evidence for this ocean in the sky no aircraft, spacecraft or ground observation ever noted it and its existence would contradict what we know is true about the atmosphere. The theory is no longer popular, even with Forteans; more popular is teleportation or some other paranormal explanation. However, the real explanation, confirmed by observations, is that whirlwinds (tornados and waterspouts) and updrafts during strong weather events can transport material and deposit it some distance away, possibly onto the heads of some rather surprised onlookers.
