Afrocentrism claims that the African culture is largely responsible for most, if not all, of humankinds achievements. The movement has its equivalent in almost all cultures and nationalities but has received greater stability and attention in America due to several influences the anti-racist sentiment that is a fortunate part of developed nations, the evolutionary evidence that humans evolved in the African savannah before populating the globe, and the fact that that it is a modern movement that is much more accessible and applicable in todays society. Afrocentrism strives to place Africans in a top or central position within history and claim part ownership and inspiration of the many great discoveries and advancements that have been made. Skeptical Perspective It is difficult to provide a skeptical perspective on this subject due to potential misunderstanding. All cultures have contributed to the advancements of humankind and all cultures have, at one time or another, striven to put themselves in the limelight. Cultures and nationalities also work to build morale and patriotism among their peoples. They strive, not only to preserve their traditions and history but also to share them with the rest of the world so that we can all appreciate the diversity and contributions that our worlds people have provided each of us. The claims and information that are being spread by Afrocentrism, however, are exaggerated and false. Their work is a classic example of historical revisionism. |
