In voodoo religion, sorcerers are believed to possess the power to partially resurrect the recently deceased. The dead people return as zombies or "witless, shambling slaves." The resurrection is not complete as zombies are thought to suffer brain damage. In voodoo rituals, drugs are often used to simulate death with an antidote applied to bring the person back to life. Severe brain damage, and in many cases death, is often the result of such ritual. |
