Image YIN AND YANG
Yin and yang are two words originating in ancient Chinese civilizations that mean the opposite of each other. Yin means "earth" and "contraction," yang means "heaven" and "expansion." They are also labeled evil and good, female and male and have come to be used for all pairs of words that are opposites. Ancient Chinese tradition believes there is a specific balance of yin and yang within everyone and that health is optimal when this balance is reached. Various methods and techniques have been devised over the millennia to achieve this balance. The beliefs and practices to do with yin and yang are also closely aligned with religious ideas and beliefs - especially those within Buddhism.
