The name Sasquatch was used by Canadian journalist J.W. Burns in the 1920s to describe the large, hairy manlike creatures of the remote northern wilderness. The word was derived from native tribal words for this legendary giant. In the United States, “Bigfoot” became the more popular name for the media to describe the same creature. Sasquatch sightings are most commonly reported from British Columbia and Alberta provinces of Canada and the northwestern U.S. (See the entry for Bigfoot)
