Angels are thought to be entities that live in another realm of reality other than the physical one. The popular image of angels includes beautiful human bodies with wings to fly between heaven and earth. According to the Catholic religion, angels were created before man and have no body. Religious accounts of angels provide detailed stories of how angels interact with humans and the relationship they share with one another. There are nine orders of angels: seraphim, cherubim, thrones, dominations, virtues, powers, principalities, archangels, and angels. Speculation believe that angels were created by modern religions to account for the multiple gods and goddesses of earlier times - those that can be found within Greek mythology for instance. Angels are often depicted as good - playing a "middleman" role between God and human beings. When children behave well, a common nickname they are given is "little angel." Popular belief is that angles can play the role of guardian in the life of an individual or serve as messengers - providing information about the future: warnings, advice, and so forth. Angels are depicted often in modern-day society. Jewelry, artwork, Christmas ornaments, calendars, and a variety of other merchandise take advantage of the popularity of angels. |
