EXPERIMENT
The
Household "Whites" Challenge
Get
a number of clear containers together, like Mason Jars, and
number them. If there is more than one person doing the experiment,
get several pieces of paper, also numbered, and hand one out
to each person. Before testing your sight, have an adult fill
each container with "household whites" and keep
a record of what's what. Here are some examples to choose
from:
FLOUR |
BAKING
SODA |
GRITS

PARMESAN
CHEESE |

Now
have each person guess what product is in each container just
by looking. When everyone is finished compare your results
with each other and the master copy. How many did you get
right? Was it difficult to see which one was which?
Note:
You could also do this experiment with clear liquids to show
how many liquid products resemble water and how this can be
very dangerous if they are things like cleaning liquids, which
are often poisonous. Small children can accidentally mistake
a cup of clear liquid for water and this is why parents keep
all harmful products in safe areas, out of the reach of children
and why the products must contain warning labels on them.
